Biography

Research Interests

Glaciology, especially the use of airborne and satellite remote sensing tools, in combination with in situ measurements and numerical models, to understand how and why the Earth's land ice cover is changing and what these changes mean for life on Earth.

My present research is focused on generating estimates of the contribution of the Antarctic Peninsula ice sheet and outlet glaciers to global sea-level rise. I have previously worked on surging / fast-flowing glaciers in the Karakoram Himalaya, elevation and volume changes of glaciers on Svalbard, the sea-level contribution of glaciers in the Yukon, Canada, and remote-sensing and field validation studies of glacier systems in the Canadian high and sub-Arctic. I maintain an active research interest in the innovative application of airborne and satellite remote-sensing tools (in particular, laser altimetry and stereo-photogrammetry) to glaciological and geomorphological research.

I have led or participated in a total of more than 30 weeks of remote glaciological fieldwork, in the Norwegian high Arctic (Svalbard, x3), the Canadian high-Arctic (Devon ice cap, Nunavut) and sub-Arctic (northern Labrador, x2), the Canadian Rockies and European Alps.
