News Story - Chief Scientific Adviser David Clary visits British Antarctic Survey's Rothera Research Station
Date: 28 Jan 2011The UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office's Chief Scientific Adviser David Clary visited Rothera Research Station in January to gain an understanding of the importance and breadth of BAS's science programme 'Polar Science for Planet Earth'. Accompanied by BAS Director Professor Nicholas Owens, David flew into Rothera's remote 900m gravel runway from Punta Arenas, Chile.
During his stay at the station, David spent a chilly night camped on a glacier in a pyramid tent to gain an understanding of what BAS field scientists go through for months at a time when studying the movement of ice sheets or drilling ice cores. David also ventured out on a small boat with BAS marine biologists who study Antarctica's extraordinary marine biodiversity.
