Operations and Engineering
Operations and Engineering is responsible for:
- Operations and Logistics (OPAL)
- Technology and Engineering
- Mapping and Geographic Information Centre (MAGIC)
Activities include:
- the design and build of UK Antarctic research stations and infrastructure
- maintaining and operating the BAS aircraft, ships and research stations in the polar regions
- designing, building and supporting instrumentation, survey and engineering systems for BAS marine and airborne platforms
- providing and supporting IT and communication systems at BAS Cambridge, on BAS ships and aircraft and on UK Antarctic research stations
- managing the logistics to get scientists and support staff and equipment to and from the polar regions
- providing mapping and geographic information support to BAS science and operations
- developing the geographic information infrastructure for British Antarctic Territory and the wider area of BAS operations in the polar regions
