Husky Dog Memorial

Outline of the sculpture

The design of the sculpture

The fund has now topped £4,000. The sculptor; David Cemmick, has confirmed the final price of £6,900 for a full-size bronze of a dog with a harness and maybe a collar too. The increase over the initial estimate of £6,000 is because of the large increase in the price of bronze over the last 12 months. David Cemmick is nationally known as a sculptor of animals and some previous commissions have sold for over £50,000. We would normally expect to pay a sculptor of such renown more than £25,000, but David has always been committed to this project and has generously waived his normal fee. David has offered to go South to see for himself the land of the British sledge dogs to ensure the sculpture is the very best he can produce.

You can learn more about David Cemmick the sculptor and Sebastian Wylder the mould maker and view a gallery of their recent sculptures by visiting the website of Cemmick and Wylder Fine Art Bronze.

I am now appealing to all for donations to make up the balance of £2,900. The British Antarctic Survey has generously offered a wonderful site at their Cambridge headquarters for the monument. So come on chaps dig deep! With a few more generous donations we hope to achieve the target and even have enough to commission a bronze plaque for it, naming all the dog teams we sledged with all those years ago!

To raise funds we are selling the fine painting of huskies by Mike Skidmore for £15 and the book The Doggy Men by Hwfa Jones for £5. Please support us one way or another!
