Work Experience

Work experience involves young people working with BAS scientists or administration managers to provide them with a broad understanding of their roles. However, please be aware that young people on work experience do not undertake active scientific procedures.

Who can apply

Unpaid work experience opportunities are mainly only offered to young people under the age of 16 studying at a local school in the Cambridge area. Placements are based at BAS in Cambridge for a maximum of two weeks.

How students are selected

Eligible students should send a covering letter (including name, age and school) and CV setting out their available dates to the contact below. Applications are forwarded to BAS supervisors who have shown an interest in offering a placement. They will select the student they consider most suitable for their placement.

Please note that we are keen to ensure that time here is both meaningful and appropriate, so we only offer relevant placements to students. We will not offer a placement unless it is totally appropriate to the individual’s interests.
