| 3. | Purpose: To provide project management and marine engineering expertise for a programme of work required to maintain the operational effectiveness of the BAS Polar vessels into the future. Work will primarily focus on the organisation’s science vessel, RRS James Clark Ross. • To lead and coordinate the programme of work directly related to Class and legislation. • Working with other BAS marine professionals with respect to activities and procedures to comply with Class, ISM and ISPS Codes. Management of the programme budget Programme and project planning Specification and supervision of engineering contracts Procurement activities This post will report directly to the Senior Marine Engineer. However, initiative and a pro-active approach is required. |
| 4. | Duties: 1) To ensure the continued effectiveness and safe operation of BAS ocean-going vessel, marine engineering systems and boats. 2) Ensuring that work specifications are developed and prepared in a timely and professional manner. Supervising contractors to meet schedules and budgets. 3) Monitoring and providing oversight of various project work and marine engineering activities on the vessel. • General: To lead and co-ordinate all arrangements for the technical maintenance and support of the ship and infrastructure, including but not limited to: • Refit and repair schedules and planning • Tender and contract placements • Planned maintenance systems • Sourcing spares, stores and contract services for ships • Investigations and reports • Preparing and controlling budgets for the programme of work • To identify efficiency savings where appropriate 4) Management of the procurement of spares, consumables and other items needed for the programme of works. 5) The management of various projects including preparation of technical specifications, project control and contractor liaison. 6) Producing reports and documentation for the Programme Board and Line Management. 7) Other duties as required by Line Management. |
