Halley LAN

The objective of this project was to provide the base at Halley with a structured cabling system for all internal communication systems.
The main platforms were linked together with fibre optic and copper backbones. The interior of each of the main platforms was flood wired with Category 5 cable terminated with RJ45 twin outlets in all the key areas. Some of the smaller buildings were also linked to the structured cabling system using microwave links.

All the cabling is brought back to a central area on each platform enabling maximum flexibility when patching from one outlet to another. On top of this cabling system was built a 10/100 Mb/s Fast Ethernet LAN and an internal telephone system, both of which interlink all of the buildings and platforms.

The LAN is constructed in such a way as to provide maximum stability and easy access to any server. Down times are minimized by providing redundancy in cabling and equipment.
