Penguin of the Day - 2013-08-18
King penguins (Aptenodytes patagonicus) provide a real wildlife spectacle on the island of South Georgia, where 400,000 pairs breed. This chick was photographed at Royal Bay, South Georgia. This chick is moulting, getting ready to fledge. Before going into the sea, chicks must lose all of their down.
