Weddell Seal (Leptonychotes weddellii). Weddell seals are the most southerly of the Antarctic seals, and are normally found on fast ice within sight of land.

Southern elephant seals (Mirounga leonina) in a wallow on South Georgia. Elephant seals are highly thigmotatic on land and are often found in large groups literally lying on top of each other. They have to come ashore to moult, and it is thought that they may form these groups to reduce heat loss.

An adult male southern elephant seal (Mirounga leonina) in tussock grass on Bird Island, South Georgia. The enlarged nose is visible, the proboscis acts as a resonator to the sound coming from the throat giving the male a loud roar which is used as a display of status in fights. The upper and lower canines are seen and these are used in fights to bite and slash opponents.
