Heading North to Vigo in Spain

Greetings to all our Webpage readers. After battling through the Northeast Trades, we are currently off Northwest Africa passing quite close to the Cape Verde Islands. Unfortunately due to our tight schedule we will not be taking the scenic route this time and will pass out of sight of land. We have thus decided to give you all one last look at some Photographs of Antarctica taken by people on board - Enjoy.

When last you heard from us we were about to arrive in Port Stanley. This we duly did and spent two days off-loading and loading cargo. Our stay in Stanley was all too brief but a fair majority of those onboard managed to get ashore for various walks about the town and Island.

On the night prior to our departure the Crew and FIDs (pax) just about took over an entire restaurant for a farewell meal, which was enjoyed by all.. The next morning the departing FIDs were all up nice and and early and soon on the quayside waving and shouting their farewells as the crew prepared the ship for sea. In calm clear weather the "Shack" headed out for open waters.

Since leaving Stanley, we have been making our way North rather uneventfully, which is generally a good thing when at sea.

We skimmed past Brazil and could just see the land in the distance. After that we have made a beeline for Spain across the great

Atlantic divide between Africa and South America. The weather has been slightly lumpy and not nearly as good as it was on our way down south late last year.

We have had two Barbecues on the Flight Deck on the last two weekends which have gone down very well. Nicola the Chef form Halley has been in charge of converting searing the meat and a fine job she has done. Dave Bailey and myself have been Chief Stokers keeping the hot coals coming. Two boys playing fire - what fun.

What's In Store:

We should be arriving at Vigo on Sunday the 22nd where we will pick up an IT guy and one or two others for the short trip back to the U.K.

We will be in Immingham on the 26th when all the preparation work for the North Sea trials will commence. A busy time for the ship indeed.

We hope you enjoyed sharing our experiences. See you next time

Pat O'Hara

Radio Officer.
