We are very pleased to announce that on Monday 11th September Professor Alan Thorpe, the Chief Executive of NERC, signed a contract with Morrison Falkland Ltd to construct Halley VI and remove Halley V.
This means BAS and Morrison can now begin the procurement and fabrication process ready for construction of the new station.
Some preparation works will take place at Halley this season (06/07) but the main works in Antarctica will take place over the following three seasons.
The main construction and demolition works will commence in the 07/08 season. BAS staff will move into Halley VI in the 09/10 season and Halley V will be completely removed by the end of that season. The winter 2010 will be the first operational winter at Halley VI.
