Corrections to AWS data

This is a list of corrections made to the AWS data tables. All of the tables as they were at the start of February 2009 can be found here for temperature and pressure and here for winds. Any suspected errors should be reported to Steve Colwell

(2 Feb 2009) The AWS data for Harry have been corrected after it was reported that data from Gill had been added where data for Harry did not exist.

(4 Feb 2009) The AWS data for Racer Rock since April 2004 have been removed from the READER website as the values appear to come from a different station even though they were transmitted on the GTS (Global Telecommunications System) as 89261 which the WMO (World Meteorological Organization) still list as being Racer Rock.

(4 Feb 2009) The AWS data for Penguin Point since January 2007 have been removed from the READER website as the values received on the GTS appear to come from a different station and this AWS is reported as being removed at the start of 2007. All of the incorrect values were displayed in red and did not appear in the downloadable text file.

(4 Feb 2009) The AWS data for Clean Air since January 2005 have been removed from the READER website as the values received on the GTS appear to come from a different station and this AWS is reported as being removed at the start of 2005. All of the incorrect values were displayed in red and did not appear in the downloadable text file.

(5 Feb 2009) Notification was received that the AWS temperature data for Elaine since February 2008 were incorrect. These are data that were received via the GTS and have been removed from the READER website. All of the incorrect values were displayed in red and did not appear in the downloadable text file.

(11 Feb 2009) Incorrect data for Bonapart Point for the whole of 1999 and January 2000 have been updated with values from the quality controlled files, as the values received on the GTS appear to come from a different station. All of the incorrect values were displayed in red and did not appear in the downloadable text file.

(11 Feb 2009) The name of Bonapart Point has been changed to Bonaparte Point as this is the correct name.

(11 Feb 2009) The station height for Terra Nova Bay has been corrected from 81m to 92m.

(11 Feb 2009) It has been decided not to use AWS wind data from the GTS SYNOPS as the sensors can sometimes freeze. Only values obtained from the quality controlled files provided by Madison will be displayed.

(01 Apr 2009) Temperature data for Butler, Larsen and Limbert from 2007 onwards has been updated with values calculated from the PRT (platinum resistance thermometer) rather than from the HMP combined temperature and humidity probe.

(01 Dec 2011) The University of Wisconsin have made corrections to the temperature data of Byrd AWS see here for details, a copy of the temperature table prior to these corrections can be found here .

(02 Apr 2013) The University of Wisconsin have advised that they have removed the data files for Dome C II AWS from 1995 - October 2006 as there was a problem with the pressure calibration, they hope to have the data restored soon.

The above corrections have been made with the help from numerous individuals including Gavin Schmidt, Steve McIntyre, Nicholas Lewis and other anonymous individuals on ClimateAudit.org. All their efforts in identifying errors on the READER website are appreciated.
