SCAWS (Synoptic and Climatological Automatic Weather Station) was installed between 10th and 24th January to run in test phase. SCAWS has a PRT (platinum resistance thermometer), Vaisala HMK humidity sensor, 2 Vector A100R anemometer, 2 Vector W200P wind vanes and a Rosemount pressure sensor.

SCAWS still in test phase.

A new Stevenson screen was installed close to the anemometer tower for the SCAWS temperature and humidity probes as the old position south of the station was suffering from snow accumulation due to an extension to the building. The new screen was erected 200m north of the existing screen and a comparison of the temperature from the two sites shows that they were consistent.
