Welcome to the Antarctic Data Atlas

The Antarctic Data Atlas is an initiative of the Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research (SCAR) that aims to present various key fields concerning the past, present and possible future evolution of the Antarctic environment. It is complementary to the SCAR READER database that contains mean climate data for the Antarctic research stations.

The site contains fields describing the atmosphere, ocean, cryosphere and terrestrial environment. Annual, seasonal and monthly mean data are presented.

The broad outline of the project was agreed at the SCAR Cross-SSG workshop held in Modena, Italy in February 2009. This initial test version of the data base is made available for discuss at the SCAR meeting in Buenos Aires, Argentina in July/August 2010. Comments on the site and how the initiative should develop should be sent to Prof. John Turner (jtu@bas.ac.uk).
