Metlog guide to the various tables

I don't guarantee this is up to date, but I'll try... [Ha! I guarantee it *isnt* up to date...]

Most of the BAS met data (most by volume, at least) is stored in oracle tables. It can be unclear which table you need/want. The following descriptions may help; see-also the Comprehensible User Interface.

The following tables are available to the outside world:

  1. GTS_PERL_SYNOP - land station met (SYNOP) reports. Every so often (about once a year) this table is cleared of an old year which is archived into GTS_SYNOP_yyyy
  2. GTS_PERL_TEMP - radiosonde (TEMP) reports. Ditto for the clearout.
  3. GTS_PERL_ZBUOY - buoy reports. Not so many of these so no need for a clearout.
  4. GTS_PERL_ZCLIMAT - CLIMAT reports (since about may 2000)
  5. GTS_SHIP - appears to contain ship met reports
  6. GTS_SYNOP_1987 - data from GTS_PERL_SYNOP for 1987
  7. ...
  8. GTS_SYNOP_1999 - data from GTS_PERL_SYNOP for 1999
  9. GTS_TEMP_1980 - data from GTS_PERL_TEMP for 1980
  10. ...
  11. GTS_TEMP_1999 - data from GTS_PERL_TEMP for 1999
  12. GTS_TEMP_ALL - presumably contains *all* the TEMP data
  13. HALLEY_SYNOP - synops from Halley station
  14. HALLEY_UPPER_AIR - temps from Halley
  15. JONES_AND_LIMBERT - Monthly means of MSLP and Temperature, updated from Jones and Limbert.
  16. ROTHERA_SYNOP
  17. SIGNY_SYNOP
  18. VERNADSKY_SYNOP - Vernadsky is the name of the Ukranian station which replaces Faraday
  19. Z_CLIMAT_TEMP - probably contains some CLIMAT TEMP messages...
