In this example
a barnacle shell (sample 1) is found at an outcrop 12 m asl at Base 1
with given coordinates. Radiocarbon dating in combination with facies
analysis revealed a minimum age for the shell of 14000 ± 720 yr BP;
>14000 is equal to ´no younger than´ 14000 yr, so in the comment
line the date gets the codes UB and CB (see also Table
1). Note that in the table the date does not show the ´>´´
sign. The shell was found in marine deposits, so the data type is
interpreted as marine (code TR, see Table 1).
A correction factor of 1300 years was applied to account for the marine
reservoir effect. The
comment line reads that no younger than 12700 ± 720 (corrected age)
marine conditions prevailed at the site of Base 1.
