PP routines

Met office model output generally comes in "pp format", which is to say "post processed" format. The pp routines are sort-of publically available. They are IDL/PVWAVE routines.

See-also IDL and some perl scripts if you're feeling brave.

For now, pp2txt.f will (when compiled...) read in a pp field and convert it to text. orog.pp can be used to test it (nb: needs to be renamed to in.pp for the code above to work). Errr... don't forget about byte ordering problems: big/little endianness and so on.
